Two suspects were arrested Saturday over the shooting death of a 28-year-old man in Kilimani.
Businessmen Chris Obure and Robert Obodo were arrested by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations and taken to the Kilimani Police Station.
Police sources say the victim, Kevin Omwenga, was killed in a suspected gold deal gone sour.
A mini ceska firearm with 13 bullets suspected to have been used in the fatal shooting was recovered.
Police said ballistic analysis will be done on the firearm as investigators seek to unravel the motive of the shooting.
The 28-year-old man said to have interests in the motor business was in his house with his brother and two other friends when he was shot while in his bedroom.
“The firearm, which has been kept as an exhibit, will be subjected to ballistic analysis as further investigations ensue to unravel the motive of the shooting,” the DCI tweeted.
Police said the victim was rushed to Nairobi Women’s Hospital in Kilimani after the shooting where was pronounced dead on arrival.
One of the suspect thereafter led police to an apartment where the murder weapon was recovered.
A bullet head and an empty cartridge were also recovered at the scene of the incident.
“The gun was found in a safe. And we have since established it belongs to another man, a licensed firearm holder,” a detective privy to the ongoing investigations said.
Reports indicate that the gun used in the murder of the car dealer belongs to Obure.
This is not the first time that Obure has been arrested over an incident involving guns.
Four years ago, he was alleged to have caused chaos at a Nairobi nightclub by using his licensed firearm to intimidate revelers.
He was charged with assault and causing bodily harm to a Mr Ben Alila Onyango on December 31, 2016 in Westlands.
Obure, who appeared before Milimani Law Court Principal Magistrate, Joyce Njandani, denied the charge and was released on a Sh20,000 cash bail or an alternative bond of Sh50,000.
According to police, he was arrested following complaints that he had threatened to shoot a reveler.
Chris Obure had been ordered to surrender his firearm on Monday but failed to do so.
A year earlier, he had hit the headlines for splashing millions on his wife’s baby shower at the Villa Rosa Kempinski Hotel.
He was accompanied by at least 10 men and made a special 15-minute appearance some time later into the ceremony. He showered his wife with lavish gifts including; a Samsung S6 Edge Plus phone, a holiday trip to the Bahamas Islands and Sh1 million.
After presentation of gifts, Obure and his entourage left the ceremony.
