Former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey is in the country.
Jack arrived in the country from Ghana on Thursday and met Kenya tech ecosystem founding members at iHub where he shared insights on running big tech companies Twitter, Cashapp and Square.
Jack also provided some commentary on bitcoin.
Gridless, a bitcoin mining business assisting in the development of new energy generation in rural communities in East Africa, received a $2 million (Sh245.7 million) investment on Tuesday from Jack’s company, Block, and venture capital firm Stillmark.
The funding will help the company spread its bitcoin mining operations across African markets.
Gridless exists to meet the demands of African energy producers as they work to electrify the continent and provide more reasonably priced power to people living in rural areas.
Gridless, founded in 2022 by seasoned professionals in the East African connectivity, infrastructure, and software industries, uses bitcoin mining as a tool to speed up industry growth as well as to further geographically distribute and secure the bitcoin network.
In May, Dorsey left the board of directors of Twitter to concentrate on Block, formerly known as Square.
Block is a global technology company with a financial services focus. The company is comprised of Square, Cash App, Spiral, TIDAL, and TBD54566975 and helps creates tools to help more people gain access to the economy.
