Detectives are investigating the murder of popular Ohangla dancer Sheila Odoyo, known by her stage name Sheila Wegesha, after her body was discovered in her house in Athi River, Machakos County.
It is suspected that Sheila, aged 38, was killed on Thursday morning before her body was found in bed hours later in the Hill View estate.
Police reported that her 18-year-old daughter stumbled upon her lifeless body in bed before raising an alarm.
The body which was discovered at about 1 pm Thursday, May 9 lay with a pool of blood caked around it indicating she had died more than four hours earlier.
It had a deep cut in the throat, police said.
Police handling the matter said they are looking for the deceased’s husband who is said to have been seen in the house hours earlier.
He is said to have left the house past midnight on Wednesday without saying anything to the other family members who were present.
He left in his car, the daughter said.
The detectives said they wanted to have a conversation with the man over the issue.
The motive of the murder is yet to be known.
The daughter said she had prepared lunch for her mother and went to wake her up to take the same when she realized she was dead.
Police arrived at the scene and processed it before moving the body to the mortuary pending autopsy.
The couple runs a popular bar in Umoja area, Nairobi.
Sheila is a popular Ohangla dancer. Many mourned her on social media on learning about the death.
Those mourning her pointed the possible motive behind the murder and called for justice for the family.
Police have promised to ensure justice in the murder.
