Police in Elgeyo Marakwet are on high alert following a bandit attack at Kaben village, where a Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) helicopter crashed on Thursday afternoon, killing 10 soldiers, including the Chief of Defence Forces General Francis Ogolla.
The daring bandits attempted to drive away an unknown number of livestock in full view of the police.
However, police reports indicate that no livestock was taken by the bandits, who are believed to be from the Pokot community. The bandit raid occurred while KDF officers were still on the ground investigating the helicopter crash.
According to police reports, the bandits engaged in a 30-minute gun battle in the village, sparking fear among locals. The armed bandits later disappeared into the thickets, prompting police to launch a manhunt.
It is currently unclear whether there were any casualties in the Friday raid.
