The Communication Authority of Kenya’s Board has suspended Director-General Ezra Chiloba with no reasons given as at the night of the news going public.
In fact, the internal Memo with the announcement, and signed-off by CA Board chair Mary Mungai, was largely and primarily about the appointment of Christopher Wambua as the acting DG, and not so much Chiloba’s suspension, save for the passing announcement that the Board resolved to suspend him.
“Following a meeting of the Authority’s Board held on 18 th September 2023, resulting in the suspension of the Director General, I am pleased to inform all staff of the appointment of Mr. Christopher Wambua as a Director General in Acting Capacity effective today until further notice,” Ms. Mungai said in her Memo to staff dated 18 September, 2023.
Chiloba’s suspension may be another of the changes at the helm of various state agencies in the offing, as the Kenya Kwanza administration replaces top bosses with individuals deemed to be more aligned to its agenda, and what is termed as rewarding loyalists.
Wambua, has been the Authority’s Director Of Communications And Public Affairs since 2015. He had, however, just returned to the CA headquarters in July from secondment to the Kenya Film Classification Board, KFCB, where he was appointed as the acting Chief Executive Officer in August 2021.
This was among the actions taken when there was an investigation into corruption allegations against the then-CEO, Ezekiel Mutua.
