The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has released photos of suspects believed to have orchestrated unlawful activities during the ongoing anti-government protests, now in their third week.
In a statement issued on X, the DCI shared images of the wanted individuals, instructing them to report to the nearest police station for further action.
“The individuals whose images/photos appear below are wanted by the police for their unlawful activities during the anti-finance bill demonstrations. We therefore advise them to report to the nearest police station for further police action,” the DCI stated. The public is also urged to provide information on the whereabouts of these individuals, with details to be anonymously channeled to the hotline number 0800722203 or by calling 999, 911, or 112.
This announcement follows a stern warning from the DCI to those planning to exploit the nationwide anti-government demonstrations for criminal purposes.
Initially peaceful protests across the country were later marred by violence as goons infiltrated the gatherings. These individuals targeted the Nairobi CBD and various parts of the country, vandalizing and looting businesses.
The Gen Z protesters, who initially led the demonstrations, had aimed to maintain peace with both the police and businesses. However, the situation deteriorated as looters disrupted this effort by attacking shops and clashing with police.
Some protesters noted a shift in the atmosphere, stating that unlike previous protests, the recent ones were infiltrated by delinquents who stole phones and destroyed businesses.
