Former Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) boss Dr. Ezekiel Mutua has been named the new CEO of the Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK).
The appointment was announced by MCSK Board Chairperson Lazarus Muli through a statement on Monday, who noted that Dr. Mutua was the society’s boss effective Friday, March 25.
“Dr. Mutua’s appointment follows rigorous competitive interviews in which he emerged top among the candidates who were interviewed for the position,” said Muli.
Mutua was, until August last year, at the helm of KFCB, where he earned himself the label of Kenya’s ‘moral policeman’ for criticism of being morally high-handedness.
He was often wranglend in fights with Kenyan content creators, who frequently complained about board censorship since he took over in 2015.
A communications practitioner by profession, he has also previously served as a Trainee Reporter and Sub-Editor at the Nation Media Group; Secretary General of Kenya Union of Journalists; Director of Information & Public Communications as well as Information Secretary for the government.
Mutua holds a PhD in Communication Studies from Moi University, a Master’s degree in Communication Studies from the University of Nairobi and a Bachelor’s in Sociology and Linguistics from Kenyatta University.
“We have the faith that his passion for excellence, as attested by his exemplary performance in the previous positions he has held, will help us to steer the MCSK to the next level,” Muli added.
