Quack doctor James Mugo Ndichu alias Mugo Wa Wairimu has been sentenced to 11 years in prison for rendering medical services without a permit.
He also operated an unlicensed clinic in Githurai 44.
Principal Magistrate Martha Nanzushi ordered that Mugo Wa Wairimu pay a fine of Sh .4 million for unlawful practise of Medicine.
In count one, he was fined Ksh.20,000 or serve 2-years imprisonment; in count two he was fined Sh200,000 or serve a similar jail sentence; in count three he was fined Sh50,000 or a 9-month imprisonment in in default.
In the fourth count, the ‘quack doctor’ was fined Sh500,000 or serve 3-year sentence; in count five he was fined Sh150,00 or a 6-month imprisonment while in count six he was fined Sh500,000 or a three-year sentence.
The court directed that the sentences to run concurrently.
Mugo Wa Wairimu hit news headlines in 2015 after he was arrested and charged with rape and illegally administering unknown drugs to a female patient.
On October 14, 2018, the rogue doctor announced his return on a Facebook post saying that the quack Doctor is back with a bang. According to sources, Mugo established a new medical facility in Kayole, Nairobi named Millan Medical Centre.
He was arrested by Flying Squad Officers in Gachie in 2018 after dodging arrest for two weeks. According to reports by the Police, the quack doctor was hiding in a house rented by his cousin in Gachie, Kiambu County.
Mugo Wa Wairimu went into hiding after he was tipped that his two workers Victor Kamunya and Risper Ouma had been arrested following a complaint by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board (KMPDU). The two were later released on Sh200,000 cash bail or a Sh500,000 bond.
