Two men – father and son – who poured human excrement and cold water on two police officers have pleaded guilty to obstructing the officers from arresting them for allegedly storing bhang at their home in Chokaa, Njiru Sub-county, Nairobi.
Erick Kimathi Jamal, 28, and his 57-year-old father were charged with obstructing police officers from performing their duties after they smeared faeces on the officers on October 8.
They were also jointly charged with drug trafficking after 280 grams of bhang with a street value of Sh8,400 was found in their house.
The two police officers were on patrol in the area when they received information from members of the public that Jamal was selling bhang from his home.
They went to the house where they found Jamal sleeping with two rolls of bhang on the table. They then proceeded to arrest him.
However, Mr Kimathi stormed the house and grabbed one of the policemen, prompting him to fire in the air to scare the suspects.
During the commotion, the suspect retreated to fetch water and excrement, which he threw at the officers while inciting members of the public to attack the officers.
After restraining the suspects, the officers entered the house and found the bhang under a bed and escorted the two to the police station where the matter was taken over by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Kayole offices.
Jamal and his father pleaded guilty to both charges when they appeared before Principal Magistrate Irene Gichobi of the Makadara Law Courts.The magistrate remanded them in custody until 24 October, when the prosecution will present its case against them and call exhibits, including the bhang, before they are convicted and sentenced.
