On Saturday, February 3, Labour and Social Protection Cabinet Secretary (CS) Florence Bore officially sent off the first contingent of over 500 Kenyan migrant workers, marking a significant step in President William Ruto’s commitment to deploying labor to five developed countries.
The group, comprising drivers, healthcare professionals, security guards, cleaners, and hospitality industry experts, received well-wishes from CS Bore. She urged them to exemplify the resilience, talent, and hard work of Kenyans while abroad, as they represent the nation on the international stage.
CS Bore reiterated the government’s dedication to exploring the international labor market and creating employment opportunities for Kenyans in countries with a high demand for skilled labor.
President Ruto, speaking in Western Province on the same day, reaffirmed his plans to generate decent employment opportunities for Kenyans, both locally and internationally. He disclosed ongoing discussions with developed nations to secure monthly salaries ranging between Ksh150,000 and Ksh200,000 for Kenyan workers deployed abroad.
Highlighting the recent advertisement of foreign job opportunities for nurses, President Ruto projected an increase to 500,000 Kenyans working abroad over the next five years. He also emphasized the government’s commitment to providing local youth with employment opportunities in digital jobs and housing initiatives.
