Former Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho has finally broken his silence on why he has been missing Azimio meetings and demonstrations.
He said that he has been away for health reasons and he is on a recovery journey.
Joho, however, assured that he is still in Azimio and supports demonstrations that were being led by Azimio leader Raila Odinga.
“I subscribe fully to the ideology of Raila Odinga, it is only for health reasons that I have been away, even as we speak I’m still recovering,” he said.
The former governor said when he fully recovers he will join the Azimio protests.
“Once I feel better, Raila will be behind me in the demonstrations. I am ODM and ODM is me, I am Raila and Raila is me,” he said.
Joho said that although demos in Mombasa are yet to take place, the time is coming when they will hold protests.
The former governor has seemingly been absent since Azimio protests began which saw other leaders call him out.
Since the onset of the Azimio demos, some Azimio leaders from Coast region lead protests in Nairobi.
Those who participated in the Nairobi demonstrations, include Stewart Madzayo (Kilifi Senator), Amina Mnyazi (Malindi MP) and Ken Chonga (Kilifi South MP).
However, their backyards, which have over the years been Raila’s bastion during general elections, did not witness any kind of street protests and shops stayed open.
Shops and businesses along major roads in Mombasa CBD — Moi Avenue, Nkrumah Road, Digo Road, Jomo Kenyatta Avenue and Abdel Nasser Road — were opened.
The residents and traders, especially those working within Mombasa town, went about their businesses undisturbed.
