In a press briefing on Friday, Health Ministry Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) Dr Mercy Mwangangi also announced that the country has recorded 1,354 positive cases from 7,732 samples tested in the last 24 hours, raising the country’s caseload to 118,889.
“From the 1,354 cases, 1,301 are Kenyans while 53 are foreigners. 719 are male while 535 are female with the youngest being a 7-month old infant and the eldest being 100 years old,” said the Ministry.
In terms of distribution of the new cases across the country, Nairobi leads with 717 infections followed by Nakuru at 174.
At the same time, 185 patient have recovered from the disease, out of which 136 are from the homebased care while 49 were discharged from various hospitals across the country. Total recoveries now stand at 89,388.
The Ministry has raised an alarm over the rise in the number of infections urging Kenyans to take extra caution.
“This a worrying trend. And all efforts must be made to arrest the situation. The rising cases are an indication that we have lowered our guard and majority of us have thrown caution to the window,” said Dr Mwangangi.
