A multi-agency team of National Police Service (NPS), Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS), National Youth Service (NYS) and safety marshals has been deployed to provide security during the World Rally Championships (WRC) in Naivasha.
Ahead of the historic comeback, Inspector General of police Hillary Mutyambai has announced that a multiagency team consisting of more than 1,000 security officers will be deployed to Naivasha.
Boots on the grounds will be coordinating security operations with air support in order to ensure the event goes on smoothly.
“They will provide total and round the clock security to all the participating stakeholders. The plan is executed in three tiers, prior to during and post-event,” said Mutyambai.
The multi-agency team will consist of officers from the National Police Service, Kenya Wildlife Service, National Youth Service and safety marshals.
“The security officers are under instructions to enforce them effectively,” he added.
The Safari Rally will be held between June 24 to 27, 2021.
With thousands expected to grace the event, visitors have been urged to comply with Ministry of Health Guidelines on Covid-19.
“We urge members of the public to cooperate with security agencies, especially those who will be directing traffic movement along the affected routes to ensure the safety and security of all road users.”
An estimated 30,000 visitors are expected in Naivasha with hotels reporting full bookings.
Over 50 rally drivers including 34 Kenyan racers are set to participate in this year’s Safari Rally.
The rally will benefit from 25 hours of live TV coverage in 155 TV markets.
Meanwhile the Nakuru county government has activated its disaster management response team ahead of the World Rally Championship.
The medical emergency teams in Naivasha sub-county hospital, Gilgil and Nakuru level IV have been prepared in case of any accident during the global event.
“The spectator zones are restricted areas and there won’t be crowding thus minimising chances of crowds infecting each other,” said county Health boss Dr Kariuki Gichuki.
