Githurai detectives have arrested a police officer from Kimbo Police Station on suspicion of murder after a 24-year-old man died of gunshot wounds early Sunday morning.
According to a report lodged at Githurai Kimbo Police Station, the victim, John Mutembei, died while receiving treatment at Kenyatta University Teaching and Referral Hospital after being shot at Goteana Bar in Githurai Kimbo.
The shooter is believed to be a police officer, although the circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear.
Following reports of the shooting, officers from Githurai Kimbo Police Station and detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) responded to the scene.
At the hospital, they confirmed Mutembei’s death from gunshot wounds.
His body was taken to the mortuary at the same facility for an autopsy.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Mutembei was rushed to hospital by good Samaritans after the shooting.
Authorities are now investigating the exact sequence of events leading up to the fatal shooting at Goteana Bar.
A firearm believed to have been used in the incident has been confiscated and will be used as evidence in the investigation.
The suspected police officer is currently in custody and is expected to appear in court on Monday to face formal charges.
