Erustus Ruiru Nganga, the Principal of Keekonyokie Mixed Day Secondary School in Narok County, finds himself in the clutches of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) following his recent arrest for bribery allegations. Nganga’s arrest transpired on Wednesday, spurred by accusations of soliciting a bribe from a local businessman who regularly supplied assorted merchandise to the educational institution.
EACC spokesperson Eric Ngumbi disclosed that Nganga was apprehended red-handed, caught in the act of accepting a bribe totaling Ksh. 40,000. This sum formed part of the Ksh. 50,000 bribe initially demanded by the principal.
Subsequent to his apprehension, Nganga was promptly escorted to the Ntulele Police Station in Narok, where he currently remains in custody pending further legal procedures.
Per the EACC, Nganga purportedly sought the bribe in exchange for expediting payment to the supplier, who had furnished the school with goods amounting to Ksh. 410,000. Instead of acquiescing to the principal’s demands, the supplier opted to report the incident to the EACC, which swiftly devised a plan to ensnare Nganga in the act.
The EACC highlighted the prevalence of such malfeasance in educational institutions, emphasizing that some principals misappropriate funds entrusted to them, occasionally colluding with unscrupulous suppliers who siphon money from schools sans providing the agreed goods or services.
In response to such egregious conduct, the anti-graft organization urges individuals privy to corrupt activities within educational settings to report them promptly through the Toll-Free No. 1551 hotline.
