Veteran photojournalist William Oeri is dead.
Oeri died in a road accident on Sunday after his vehicle collided head-on with a lorry that burst into flames, according to police.
Police said Oeri was driving a station wagon vehicle when it collided with a lorry at Kitini area on the Sagana-Kenol road at 3pm and died on impact.
“Due to impact, the Toyota Wish burst into flames but members of the public used sand to put off the fire,” a police report seen by Capital FM reads in part.
Police said he was driving on the wrong side of the road when the collision occurred.
The lorry driver and his passenger escaped with minor injuries but Oeri was trapped in the mangled wreckage that burst into flames.
He was not immediately identified until Tuesday when his family identified his body at the mortuary.
Oeri worked at Nation Media Group for several years before joining People Daily newspaper where he was working at the time of the accident.
