Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has announced that the Azimio coalition does not recognize William Ruto as the President of Kenya.
Speaking at a public rally in Kamukunji, Odinga stated that the coalition also does not also recognize the officials appointed by President Ruto into office, including his cabinet secretaries.
“We as Azimio reject the 2022 election results. We cannot and will not recognize the Kenya Kwanza regime and consider the Kenya Kwanza government illegitimate. We don’t recognize William Ruto as the President of Kenya,” Odinga said.
Odinga argued that the election process was marred by irregularities and alleged electoral fraud. Odinga said that the coalition does not recognise the results announced by IEBC.
In addition to this, Odinga outlined a series of demands that he believes should be implemented in order to address the issues that led to the current political crisis.
He called for the removal of heavy taxes, which he claims have a detrimental impact on the citizens of Kenya and make it difficult for them to make ends meet.
He also demanded that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) be reconstituted after thorough consultations with all stakeholders, including political parties, civil society groups, and other relevant organizations.
Odinga accused the IEBC and Supreme Court of playing a central role in the rigging of the 2022 elections and called for an independent investigation to be conducted.
“We demand the entire infrastructure and the records of the 2022 elections at the IEBC remain public and be audited by an impartial body,” he said.
Furthermore, Odinga called for the resignation of the Kenya Kwanza government, claiming that they have no mandate to govern the people.
He urged the citizens of Kenya to resist President Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza government and to fight for their rights and fair representation.
“We ask our people to say no to the UDA regime. This regime and its unfortunate and unfair policies must be resisted and the resistance starts today,” he said.
