A female suspect in the murder of Wells Fargo Human Resources Manager Willis Ayieko has died while undergoing treatment after being hospitalised for injuries sustained during a police shoot out.
County Criminal Investigation Officer, Joseph Thuvi confirmed her death saying that she died while receiving treatment.
He at the same time did not disclose the name saying the police are still doing some analysis.
Her death comes just a day after police in Siaya’s Gem Wagai sub-county also recovered a pistol belonging to the late Ayieko after a shoot-out between detectives and a male driver who was accompanied by the deceased.
According to the DCI, “this firearm was stolen from him on the night he was murdered”.
The recovery followed a tip-off from members of the public who reported seeing two people – the male and female suspects – armed in a Toyota Axio, registration number KDN 948B, at the Wagai Trading Centre.
When officers from the Wagai police station stopped the suspects’ vehicle, the male driver disobeyed orders and opened fire on the police while speeding towards Luanda.
“This led to a hot pursuit that ended at Adder Farm in the Kagilo area, where the vehicle lost control and overturned,” the DCI said.
Unfortunately, the driver managed to escape, leaving behind the female passenger, who was found injured and unconscious.
Police searched the vehicle and found a pistol which was identified as the gun stolen from Ayieko. Despite being rushed to a hospital in Yala, the woman died of her injuries hours later.
Meanwhile, an intensified pursuit of the fleeing suspect led Gem Yala detectives to his rented house at the Sagam Trading Centre in Kanyibwop village.
There, authorities seized several items, including a jungle green jumper, military shorts, two televisions, an HP laptop and a Rolex watch. A woman found in the house was also arrested.
Investigations into the murder are ongoing, with detectives examining all evidence and forensic teams carrying out thorough analyses to uncover new clues.

Meanwhile, the first suspect who was arrested in Dandora, Nairobi appeared in court on Wednesday over the murder of Ayieko had previously been charged with robbery with violence.
Vincent Ouma Okoth, 25, who appeared in a Siaya court in connection had been charged in May.
But the case was withdrawn after prosecutors said witnesses refused to testify, citing threats.
Siaya magistrate Jacob Mkala on Wednesday allowed Okoth to be remanded in custody at Railway Police Station in Kisumu County for 21 days to allow police to investigate the killing of Ayieko on October 23.
This followed an application by state prosecutor Evans Soita, supported by an affidavit from investigating officer Oliver Nabonwa.
The magistrate ordered that the suspect undergo psychiatric evaluation and that his mobile phone be subjected to forensic examination.
“The mobile phone of the accused, a Redmi Note Pro, will be subjected to forensic examination. The service provider, Airtel Kenya, is hereby directed to provide the investigating officer with information on the SIM card belonging to the respondent,” the magistrate ordered.
The prosecution said a forensic analysis had placed the suspect at the scene of the crime.
