Deputy President William Ruto has chided President Kenyatta for endorsing ODM leader Raila Odinga’s 2022 presidential bid.
Ruto, who is also eyeing the presidency in the upcoming elections, accused Kenyatta of turning his back on him and the electorate who propelled him to power in 2013 and 2017.
Speaking during a Kenya Kwanza alliance rally at Thika Stadium on Sunday, the deputy president claimed Uhuru has caused him and his allies untold suffering in the last four years.
“I walked with you when you needed a brother by your side. For four and a half years, you have caused us untold suffering. You have hounded us, dropped our allies from parliamentary committees and called us names including thieves. You have overseen the downfall of Jubilee,” a seemingly incensed Ruto lamented.
Ruto further accused Kenyatta of lying to Kenyans that the handshake and the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) had nothing to do with 2022 succession politics.
He noted that Kenyatta’s endorsement of Raila confirmed that real intention of the handshake and the BBI was never to pursue peace, but to install a puppet president.
“Nilikusikia Jana ndugu yangu mambo ya handshake mambo ya bbi haikuwa mambo ya Amani ya kuunganisha wakenya, ilikuwa mambo ya kuunda stooge ama puppet ya kuendesha Kenya,” he added.
While stating that the people are with him, Ruto vowed to mount a formidable campaign and exuded confidence that he will trounce Odinga, whom he described as a puppet and a project who will fail miserably.
“My friend, it is us who walked with you across the whole country. We stood with you and prayed together so that The Hague cases could go away. Now, you’ve turned against us and labeled us your enemies. It is okay,” Ruto remarked.
