The Ministry of Interior has reported that the death toll from floods in Kenya has risen to 169, with an additional 66 deaths recorded.
In a statement on Tuesday, the ministry confirmed that 46 lives were lost in a mudslide in Mai Mahiu, while Garissa reported 4 fatalities and Sindo in Homa Bay reported another 4 deaths.
The number of injured individuals has also increased, with 102 people sustaining injuries across the affected regions.
Currently, 91 people are reported missing, with 53 of them from Mai Mahiu and 16 from Garissa.
The floods have displaced a total of 30,099 households, affecting approximately 150,495 individuals. In Sindo, Homa Bay, 161 households have been displaced.
The total number of people affected by the floods is estimated at around 190,942.
The affected counties include Nairobi, Tana River, West Pokot, Homa Bay, Murang’a, and Nakuru, where landslides and mudslides have occurred.
Search, rescue, and retrieval operations are ongoing in Nakuru following the recent mudslide.
A reporting desk has been set up at the Mai Mahiu tragedy site, manned by representatives from the National Government, Nakuru County, and the Kenya Red Cross.
Authorities are urging continued vigilance and adherence to safety measures as the floods have led to massive displacements, loss of lives, and property across the country.
