Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua apologized to Mama Ngina Kenyatta, the mother to former President Uhuru Kenyatta for the insults during the 2022 elections campaigns.
Speaking during an interview with Kameme TV on Monday March 25, Gachagua expressed remorse over the disrespectful behaviour Kenya Kwanza leaders exhibited towards Mama Ngina during the 2022 political campaigns.
He made the remarks during an interview with Kameme TV journalists at his Karen home in Nairobi on Monday.
“I am sorry for involving Mama Ngina Kenyatta in the last general elections politics. She is our mother.
“I therefore ask for forgiveness on behalf of our team for any inconvenience caused to her. I will never allow anyone to demean her or anyone from the region,” Gachagua told Kameme TV.
At the same time, the deputy president emphasized the need to uphold respect for elders, acknowledging that every Kenyan leader deserves respect for purposes of promoting both regional and national unity.
Gachagua also used the opportunity to pledge his intentions in promoting unity and healing the nation from the wounds of the 2022 general elections campaigns.
“In 2022, politics had deteriorated to a deplorable state. There was a regrettable lack of respect, with insults being hurled at Mama Ngina, and I’m very sorry for that. We humbly request her forgiveness,” Gachagua said.
In addition, he stressed the need to respect former president Uhuru Kenyatta, as he highlighted his key role in Mt Kenya politics and his general influence both at national and international levels.
Gachagua noted that he was looking forward to meeting Uhuru and other Azimio leaders for purposes of promoting peace and harmony in the country.
“He is our son and we love him. I directed the regional leaders to desist from attacking the retired President.
“We still love him, if he wronged us, that is past and it’s not meaningful as all what we need is peace and unity of our people,” Gachagua said.
