At least 20 people have been confirmed dead following heavy flash floods that destroyed several homes in Kamuchiri Village, Mai Mahiu, Nakuru County, after heavy rains.
The floodwaters originated from a nearby river that broke its banks on Sunday night, according to the Kenya Red Cross.

Naivasha police commander Stephen Kirui confirmed the tragedy, stating that rescue missions were ongoing. He added that several others have been rushed to Naivasha Hospital for treatment.
The death toll may increase as the search and rescue mission continues in the area.
The incident led to the closure of the major road from Nairobi to Mai Mahiu after heaps of rocks, mud, and logs were dumped on it. Many road users were stranded for hours as rescuers responded to the scene. Police urged motorists to avoid the route.
Heavy rains are being experienced in many parts of the country, prompting calls for caution.
Teams from the Kenya Police, County Disaster team, Kenya Red Cross, and community members are at the scene, officials said.
