President William Ruto and Trade Cabinet Secretary (CS) Moses Kuria today conducted a virtual meeting with TikTok’s global Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Shou Zhi Chew.
CS Kuria announced the early morning meeting through his official Twitter page, stating, “I joined H.E. President @WilliamsRuto in a virtual meeting with TikTok Global CEO Mr. Shou Zi Chew.”
According to communication from State House, TikTok will be committed to ensuring that content on the platform adheres to agreed guidelines.
President William Ruto had previously expressed his intention to hold the meeting with the TikTok boss on Thursday with the primary agenda focusing on discussing content moderation on the platform.
The discussions aimed to strategize on minimizing detrimental content on the platform while also exploring opportunities to optimize content monetization.
Meanwhile, the Somali Ministry of Communications and Technology (Moct) announced its decision to ban TikTok, Telegram, 1XBet.
The ban was attributed to their undue influence on Somali youths, which the ministry claims had “caused some of them to lose their lives.”
