YouTube Premium and YouTube Music Premium have made their official debut in Kenya, further expanding their reach across the African continent.
Google Africa announced the news in a post on X on Wednesday, December 6, detailing the subscription plans available.
“Wassup Kenya? YouTube Music and YouTube Premium are now available in +254. Get it today and enjoy YouTube ad-free,” the post read.
For Sh499 on Android and $4.99 on iOS, individual users can enjoy ad-free viewing, background play, and offline video downloads.
Families can opt for the premium family plan at Sh949 on Android and $9.49 on iOS.
According to the video streaming platform, YouTube Premium includes YouTube Music Premium which will allow subscribers to enjoy over 100 million ad-free songs, even with the screen locked.
Background play is enabled by default for YouTube, YouTube Music, and YouTube Kids.
“With YouTube Premium, background play is on by default for YouTube, YouTube Music, and YouTube Kids. This means if you’re watching a video on YouTube and you leave the YouTube app, the video will keep playing in the background until you pause it,” stated You Tube.
In addition, subscribers can download content for offline enjoyment for up to 30 days without an internet connection, and cancelling memberships is a straightforward process through the Paid Membership page.
Beyond Kenya, these services have also been introduced in Senegal and Ghana.
