Content creator Eve Mungai has been ousted from her own YouTube channels and Facebook account in a hostile takeover by her former partner, ‘Director Trevor’.
The couple, who were romantically linked for almost five years, have reportedly parted ways both personally and professionally.
Trevor rebranded Mungai Eve’s YouTube channels as ‘Kenya Online Media‘, effectively stripping her of her role in managing the platforms.
Other channels affected include the Mungai Eve Insta Fame YouTube channel, which has over 100,000 subscribers, and a Facebook page with 847,000 followers, which were previously jointly owned by the couple.
Mungai was the face of their YouTube channels. Her coverage of various topics, particularly in the entertainment space, attracted widespread attention and earned her a loyal following.
The content creator rose to prominence during the 2020 lockdown when she launched her YouTube channel and quickly gained traction with viral coverage of unheard voices, with notable contributions to the recognition of emerging artists of the ‘shembeteng‘ lingua fame such as ‘Madocho’, ‘Liyetin’ and ‘Stupid Boy’.
Director Trevor, on the other hand, has been credited as the driving force behind the brand’s success, serving as its director, producer, editor and photographer.
Prior to their split, Mungai’s YouTube channel was reportedly generating impressive earnings, with a monthly income of over Sh1.5 million, making her a millionaire at the age of 21.
