Authorities from China, Thailand, and Myanmar have orchestrated the gradual repatriation of over 800 Chinese nationals embroiled in gambling and fraudulent operations in Myanmar’s Myawaddy region. This coordinated effort was revealed by the Ministry of Public Security on Wednesday.
The collaboration stems from a series of joint anti-crime endeavors launched by Chinese law enforcement in March 2023, targeting cross-border telecom fraud and online gambling activities. These concerted actions, in partnership with counterparts in Myanmar and Thailand, yielded significant outcomes.
Amidst escalating enforcement measures, some Chinese nationals implicated in the illicit operations opted to surrender themselves for repatriation to China. Through synchronized efforts and close collaboration among the tripartite alliance, a working group dispatched by Chinese authorities, alongside counterparts from Myanmar and Thailand, recently concluded the repatriation process for these individuals.
