A first-year student at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) tragically took his own life on Saturday, March 30, 2024, by jumping from the fourth floor of a hostel building on the university campus.
Efforts to rescue the first-year Computer Science student proved unsuccessful, and reports suggest that the incident resulted in their death.
Confirmation of the student’s passing came from his family after the body was transferred to the Thika Level 5 Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
Preliminary investigations by the police suggest that the deceased may have been struggling with disappointment after failing to secure a scholarship at a university in the United States. Statements from the student’s former classmates indicated that they had been experiencing depression following their missed opportunity to study in the US.
