The bodies of two children, aged ten and two years, were found decomposed in their house days after they went missing in the Mwihoko area of Githurai, Nairobi.
According to the police, their father, who was last seen with them, remains missing.
The grim discovery was made on Tuesday, two days after a missing persons report had been filed at Githurai Kimbo police station.
Residents reported that the minors and their father, John Gacheru, had been missing since March 31.
Neighbors in the Kizito area reported a foul smell emanating from Gacheru’s house, where he resided with the children.
Though they were last seen entering the house, no one witnessed their departure.
Officers from Mwihoko and Githurai Kimbo police stations responded to the scene and forcibly entered the locked house.
Inside, they found the decomposing bodies of the children, one stuffed in a bag and the other wrapped in a bedsheet and placed under the sink. Strangulation marks were observed around their necks.
The bodies were transferred to the mortuary for autopsy and further investigation.
The whereabouts of the man remain unknown, with Kiambu police boss Michael Muchiri confirming that authorities are actively searching for him.
The incident is being treated as a murder case, although investigators are yet to establish the motive behind the tragic event. Police teams continue to pursue leads to unravel the circumstances surrounding the murders.
