Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has announced the construction of a nightclub at Uhuru Park.
This unexpected move, Sakaja explains, aims to provide an alternative to the numerous nightclubs popping up in residential areas.
“There is a nightclub that is going to be here. We agreed hiyo kupiga kelele kwa estate muache. You can come here and scream until the cows come home,” he said.
“That is the zone, sherehe mfanyie hapo.”
Assuring transparency, Sakaja reveals that specific locations within the park have already been designated for the nightlife venture. He pledges a fair and open process for those interested in managing these establishments.
He said the additional projects in the park which also include Swahili and African restaurants among others will be built under the public-private partnership (PPPs).
During a ceremony marking the park’s handover from the Ministry of Defence, Sakaja disclosed plans to initiate the tendering process in accordance with the Public Procurement and Asset Disposal Act (PPDA).
While unveiling this proposal, the governor also issued a heartfelt appeal to the public, particularly Nairobians, urging them to cherish and protect Uhuru Park. Emphasizing the importance of adhering to park rules, prominently displayed at the entrance, Sakaja called for collective efforts to prevent any acts of vandalism and preserve this beloved public space.
