A 58-year-old woman was taken into custody on Thursday night after police discovered the decaying body of her husband inside their house in Sifa farm, Kitengela.
According to the police, the woman had been living with her husband’s corpse in their house. Officers were alerted by neighbors who noticed a strange smell emanating from the woman’s compound. Despite initially denying entry to the police, they eventually gained access and found the corpse lying next to her bed in the living room.
“The police went into the compound and found the woman alone. She looked sick, tired, and emaciated. She was actually shaking a lot,” said a source.
Neighbors revealed that the woman claimed she had kept the body waiting for resurrection. The couple were reportedly members of a religious sect that restricted the consumption of foods, except for bananas and watermelons. Additionally, the woman rarely ventured outdoors and had limited communication with neighbors.
The couple did not have children, with the woman citing her faith as the reason for not having any.
The woman was taken to Mathare Hospital for treatment and evaluation, while the body of her husband was taken to the City mortuary awaiting burial in his hometown of Nyeri.
The deceased, originally from Nyeri, was a former employee of Nairobi County who retired a few years ago. His wife, a Tanzanian national, is alleged to have been a lecturer at a local university in Tanzania.
