President William Ruto has issued a directive for the reopening of all schools on Monday, May 13, 2024.
This decision follows improved weather forecasts, signaling a decrease in heavy rains that had previously led to the postponement of school reopening.
Additionally, President Ruto has instructed that funds for the reconstruction of school infrastructure damaged by heavy rains be allocated through the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF).
Initially, schools were scheduled to reopen on April 29, 2024, but this date was later pushed to May 6, 2024, due to disruptions caused by the heavy rains. However, last Friday, President William Ruto directed the Ministry of Education to indefinitely postpone the reopening of all schools due to the flooding crisis triggered by the rains.
