Joseph Irungu, popularly known as Jowie, has reportedly lost his father to cancer. Irungu’s father passed away on Saturday while undergoing treatment.
He had been battling cancer, and his health significantly deteriorated following his son’s death sentence a few months ago for the murder of city businesswoman Monica Kimani.
When Jowie’s father appeared in court in March for his son’s final verdict, he appeared weak and visibly heartbroken by the judgment. He did not speak to the media after the judgment and was seen watching from a distance as his wife was being interviewed.
Jowie’s family is now pleading with the court to allow him to attend his father’s burial.
Jowie was found guilty of murdering Monica Kimani, who was brutally killed in her Lamuria Gardens apartment in Nairobi on the night of September 19, 2018. Justice Nzioka ruled that the prosecution had provided adequate evidence and proved beyond a reasonable doubt that Jowie was responsible for Monica’s murder. The judge noted that Monica Kimani’s unlawful killing was a significant loss to both her family and society.
