Tourism Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua has pledged to donate KSh 1 million to an anti-riot police officer who sustained severe injuries during the recent protests in the Central Business District (CBD).
The officer’s hands were reportedly torn apart by a teargas canister amidst the Tuesday demonstrations.
The protests, which were part of a larger series of demonstrations against the Finance Bill 2024, saw significant clashes between police and protesters. The officer, whose identity has not been disclosed, suffered the grievous injury while attempting to manage the unrest.
In a statement, CS Mutua expressed his deep concern for the injured officer and acknowledged the sacrifices made by law enforcement personnel in maintaining public order. “The bravery and dedication of our police officers often come at a great personal cost,” Mutua remarked. “This officer’s unfortunate injury is a stark reminder of the risks they face daily.”
