Registration is now open for the Fiscal Year 2022 Diversity Visa (DV-2022), popularly known as the Green Card Lottery, is now open.
Registration began on Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at 12pm and will run until Tuesday, November 10, 2020.
The Diversity Visa program, run by the US Department of State, is designed to diversity the US immigration population by making up to 55,000 permanent resident visas (green cards) available each year to nationals of countries with low immigration rates to the United States over the last five years.
Citizens of countries with more than 50,000 immigrants to the US over the last five years are ineligible to participate in the program.For this reason, citizens of the following countries are not eligible to participate in DV-2022: Bangladesh, Brazil, Canada, China (including Hong Kong SAR), Colombia, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, India, Jamaica, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines, South Korea, United Kingdom (except Northern Ireland) and its dependent territories, and Vietnam.
Kenyan citizens are eligible to participate in the program, including those currently living in the US on valid non-immigrant visas.
The State Department says applications are only accepted online at dvlottery.state.gov. No late entries or paper entries will be accepted.
Entrants are advised to submit only one entry – those who submit more than one entry will be disqualified even if they win. Additionally, entrants are asked to accurately submit all required information, as those with incomplete or incarnate entries may be disqualified.
An estimated 12 million people participated in the lottery last year.
