Digital Content creator and radio presenter Azziad Nasenya has come clean on claims that she is part of the Kenyan delegation to Paris, France for the Olympic games.
Azziad, in a statement on Thursday, said that it was unfortunate that someone would come up with such allegations.
She clarified that her involvement with the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports was when she was appointed to the Creatives Technical Committee of the Talanta Hela Council which was later disbanded.
“It is unfortunate that someone would come up with false allegations on such a matter,” she said.”I was selected and mandated to represent the younger population in the Creatives Technical Committee. However, the committee was disbanded in June 2023. I’ve not involved myself since.”
Azziad further stated that each time she has travelled out of the country it has always been using her own money and never by the government.
She said in other instances the trips have been financed by clients or her family.
“There were allegations that I travelled to Dubai using money meant for renovating a stadium. At the time, I was in Dubai recording content for the #VisitDubai campaign, a trip that was fully funded by the client,” she said.
“The receipts are on my socials, smart people can confirm instead of believing rumours.”
Azziad’s statement comes amid pressure from a section of Kenyans to have CS Ababu Namwamba make public the list of non-athlete persons who will accompany the Olympic team to Paris.
Kenyans want the ministry to release full details of those travelling, failure to which they will seek legal action.
Last week, as Ababu and President William Ruto flagged off the team at State House, he affirmed that there would be no room for joyriders.
“There’s no space, there’s no room for joyriders in Paris. There’s only space for Team Kenya to fly the country’s flag high,” Ababu said.
“Even the government delegation is going to be at its barest minimum. We have to tighten the belt.”
