There was drama at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Foundation offices after youths stormed a press conference by Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya Principal Kalonzo Musyoka after the leaders failed to agree on whether to form a government of national unity with President William Ruto.
The rowdy youths who picked chairs and began throwing them towards the leaders and journalists were about 50 in number and were chanting pro-Azimio Leader Raila Odinga slogans.
The youths, who were claiming that they would not allow any coalition Principal to disrespect Raila Odinga, drove the leaders and journalists out of the compound with some scribes getting hit by plastic chairs.
“Nobody disrespects Raila when we are alive, no press conference here,” the youths shouted as they turned chairs upside down.
Wiper Party leader Kalonzo was addressing the press when the youths stormed the tent claiming they would not allow any leader to disrespect Raila.
Kalonzo was addressing the media alongside lawmakers such as Budalang’i MP Raphael Wanjala and Migori Woman Representative Mohammed Fatuma alongside others. Former Jubilee Party Secretary General Raphael Tuju also attended the aborted meeting.
The Eastleigh Voice understands that the leaders have sharply differed over whether the coalition should join President William Ruto’s government which is facing pressure from protesters over claims of incompetence.
It is understood that while Raila’s Azimio backs joining Ruto, other affiliate parties are not keen on the idea hence the move to thwart Kalonzo’s presser.
The coalition has been locked up in meetings in a bid to seek agreement on the issue of dialogue and the future of the ongoing protests staged against the government countrywide.
