Passengers in a bus heading to Mombasa have escaped narrowly after it burst into flames on Thursday morning.
The incident happened at Tsavo National Park near Mtito Andei along the Nairobi-Mombasa highway. No fatalities were reported.
Reports indicate that the fire was caused by brake fluid at the rear wheel.
This happened as the National Transport and Safety Authority is ramping up calls for drivers and passengers to use roadworthy vehicles to avoid accidents and fatalities.
Up to 4,000 people are killed in accidents in a year in the country. Many others are left with injuries in the incidents that hurt families.
NTSA says the leading causes of fatal crashes included hit-and-runs, tyre bursts, and vehicles and motorcycles losing control.
