Police in Makueni are holding a male teacher after he was allegedly found fondling his female pupils inside a swimming pool during a school trip.
The suspect, Joseph Nduva, was arrested by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and is being held at Mtito Andei police station.
Police are in pursuit of Nduva’s colleague Mike Kioko, who is also said to have sexually assaulted pupils during the tour but managed to escape.
Nduva and Kioko are teachers at Step Up Zion Academy, which had organized an outing for its 32 KCPE candidates to Tsavo Inn Hotel in Mtito Andei.
The two, who were among a few teachers entrusted with the leaners’ care during the trip, were seen by a customer fondling two 13-year-old schoolgirls inside the hotel’s swimming pool on Saturday, according to a police report.
The customer alerted the police, who rushed to the hotel and arrested Nduva but Kioko managed to escape during the dramatic arrest.
“Ignorant of the school rules that encumbered intrusion of personal space between male teachers and female pupils, the suspects joined the pool where several kids had taken over the aquatic kingdom,” the DCI said in a statement.
Nduva will be arraigned in court on Monday as the search for Kioko, who is still at large, continues.
