President Uhuru Kenyatta on Tuesday, August 10, met ODM leader Raila Odinga and One Kenya Alliance (OKA) principals at State House-Mombasa.
The agenda of the meeting is meant to craft a united line-up that would face off against Deputy President William Ruto in the 2022 presidential election.
Political party leaders Odinga (ODM), Musalia Mudavadi (ANC), Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper), Moses Wetangula (Ford Kenya), and Gideon Moi (KANU) attended the meeting at State House, Mombasa. Also present was Kakamega Governor and ODM Deputy Party Leader Wycliffe Oparanya.
President Kenyatta has been pushing for a united Opposition that would endorse a single candidate in the 2022 presidential contest.
So far, Odinga and the One Kenya Alliance leaders (Wiper’s Musyoka, Moi of KANU, Wetangula of Ford-Kenya and Mudavadi of Amani National Congress) have all expressed interest in succeeding President Uhuru Kenyatta.
State House Spokesperson Kanze Dena, in a statement to newsrooms, said Kenyatta discussed with his guests “Covid-19’s impact on the country and how to revamp the economy; and the importance of maintaining peace, unity and national cohesion”.
President Uhuru is also expected to meet Somalia PM Mohammed Hussein Roble for bilateral talks later today.
Roble arrived at Moi International Airport in Kenya earlier today for the official visit and was received by Foreign Affairs CS Raychelle Omamo.
