A former director at a Nairobi-based children’s home has been sentenced to 100 years in jail after he was found guilty of defilement.
Stephen Nzuki Mutisya, a former director at Scream Africa Safe Child, was handed the sentence by Nairobi principal magistrate Zainab Abdul on Thursday after he was found guilty of defiling four minors.
The court heard that while defiling the minors, Nzuki would quote the Bible in convincing them that the act was right and that the holy book allowed it. During the hearing, the minors identified Nzuki as the abuser.
He is said to have committed the offenses on diverse dates between 2010 and 2016 at Scream Africa Safe Child home and Vijiko School in Utawala, Nairobi.
While reading the sentence, magistrate Zeinab said the prosecution proved the case against Nzuki beyond reasonable doubt. She stated that Nzuki deserved the sentence as the offense was serious, adding that it will serve as a deterrent to other offenders.
Nzuki had pleaded not guilty to multiple charges of sodomy, committing indecent acts with children, and attempted defilement. Amongst the charges was one stating that he gave fellatio to a 15-year-old boy.
