A school bus carrying worshippers on Thursday, December 29, evening plowed through market stalls in Ekerenyo, Nyamira County, killing two people.
The bus belonging to Moi Suba Girls Secondary was ferrying Repentance and Holiness church members who were travelling from Migori to Nakuru for an end year spiritual retreat when their bus lost control after hitting a culvert before ramming through the stalls.
According to the police, the accident left scores injured.
While confirming the incident, Nyamira North Sub-County Police boss Patrick Ngeiywa said at least 52 passengers were on board the ill-fated bus when the accident occurred.
The accident comes days after a Modern Coast bus headed to Homabay from Mombasa with 43 passengers on board slid into a ditch in Kisii
According to NTSA, the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) a total of 4,432 road users have died in accidents between January 1 and December 13 this year.
The months of January and July have recorded the highest fatalities with 433 and 487 respectively.
Between December 1 and 13, NTSA recorded 184 road user deaths and the number is expected to rise following scores of accidents recorded since then.
