Police are investigating the mysterious death of 23-year-old interior designer Geoffrey Mwathi, who allegedly fell from the 10th floor of Redwood Apartments along USIU Road at the residence of popular ‘mugithi’, artist DJ Fatxo.
Mwathi was allegedly contracted by DJ Fatxo, real name Lawrence Njuguna, to refurbish the decor of a shop and an office.
On February 21, Mwathi allegedly left his home to meet with the DJ and discuss the specifics of the job.
Mwathi’s mother, who currently resides in Qatar, released WhatsApp messages in which she claims that an ecstatic Mwathi begged her for Sh200 since he didn’t have enough money to cover the meeting’s travel costs.
Around three in the morning, Mwathi, DJ Fatxo, and three unidentified women are seen on CCTV entering the DJ’s residence.
Before arriving at Fatxo’s house, the group is alleged to have visited four separate entertainment venues.
Eventually, Fatxo was spotted leaving his flat with the women, leaving Mwathi with two other males.
Mwathi fell from the apartment seven minutes later, and surveillance video shows two guys checking the area in the parking lot prior to Mwathi’s fall.
The late Mwathi jumped to his death, according to statements made to the police by Fatxo and the two men who were at his home at the time of the occurrence.
The suicide theory advanced by the DJ and the two men who were in the apartment at the time of the incident was rejected by Mwathi’s family, who said that he had never considered taking his own life.
Due to the 72-hour wait in the autopsy, pathologists were unable to ascertain whether Mwathi had been sexually assaulted.
The case is still under investigation by the police.
