Directorate of Criminal Investigations detectives are set to conduct another autopsy on the body of interior designer Geoffrey Mwathi, also known as Jeff, who was found dead on February 22, 2023, after falling from the 12th floor of Redwood Apartments in Kasarani, Nairobi.
The body of Jeff was exhumed from his parents’ residence in Likia, Njoro sub-county, Nakuru County, and will undergo a new autopsy by government pathologist Johansen Oduor.
The homicide department detectives are also part of the team involved in the exhumation and new autopsy of the body. Family members will witness the new postmortem that will take place in a tent set up at the home.
Police Chief Japhet Koome had earlier said that they found inconsistencies in the incident and needed to dig up the body to aid their investigation. The head of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, Mohamed Amin, joined the team probing Jeff’s murder on Tuesday and ordered the exhumation and new autopsy.
Amin visited the place where Mwathi died, in Roysambu, and detectives gathered more evidence to help in the investigation into his death. Amin was with detectives from the homicide unit who wanted to recreate the scene for further investigation. He said he went to the scene to understand what happened, as there are many questions about how Jeff died mysteriously.
On the day of his death, Jeff spent the day with Mugithi singer DJ Fatxo before they went to his home at Redwoods apartment. The singer’s cousin and driver were also at the house with two women. Officials say Jeff met the singer hours earlier for an interior design job and that he was supposed to get a deposit to start work that same morning.
The case has caused a stir in the country, with many people demanding justice for Jeff. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has previously dismissed the theory that Jeff killed himself.
The exhumation and new autopsy of Jeff’s body are expected to provide crucial evidence that will help detectives unravel the mystery surrounding his death.
