Eight officers from the special forces were on Tuesday killed in Bodhei at the border of Lamu and Garissa counties while conducting patrol.
The officers died after the vehicle they were travelling in ran over a landmine, killing them on the spot.
The bodies have been recovered but their identities have not yet been established due to the level of the explosion that reportedly dismembered their bodies. The vehicle was also destroyed beyond recognition.
Military personnel later arrived at the scene for processing and intensified security operations.
Another separate attack was also been reported near Mararani where suspected members of the Al Shabaab group attacked security officers using a rocket-propelled grenade, RPG.
