A video has emerged online showing a man bravely walking past anti-riot police, seemingly unperturbed about the possibility of being manhandled.
Those who caught the moment on video at a location that was yet to be verified are heard lamenting that the man was possibly high on something to muster that level of courage.
“Huyo ako mavitu bana,” they said amid giggles.
“Huyo msee ako na courage bana,” another added.
The man in question walked past the baton-wielding officers then abruptly stopped and looked back, in what appeared like a dare to the officers who looked startled.
He then casually walked away leaving the officers bewildered as they gathered around seemingly to try and make sense of what they had just witnessed.
Someone in the comment section of the video said he would comfortably do the same things since there was no crime committed.
“Si mavitu. I can do this comfortably. He hasn’t wronged anyone.”
The incident came on a day riot police were deployed across the country to contain protests called by the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition.
Protesters lit bonfires and blocked roads with stones in some regions including the Thika Superhighway.
Some pulled down barriers on the Nairobi Expressway in Mlolongo and destroyed flower vases.
Businesses remained closed in major urban centres as demonstrators took to the streets to answer Azimio leader Raila Odinga’s call to hold the Kenya Kwanza government accountable.
The opposition chief marshalled his supporters to pour on the streets to protest against “punitive and unfair taxes” imposed by the government via the Finance Act, 2023.
Save for the disruption of transport on major highways, there was little or no incident regarding ugly clashes between protesters and riot police.
