Public Service, Youth and Gender Affairs CS nominee Aisha Jumwa was on Tuesday overwhelmed by emotions as she narrated details of her early life before the Parliamentary Committee on Appointments.
The former Malindi MP stated that she was raised in family of 27 siblings and at some point had to drop out of school due to lack of fees.
“I have walked a journey that has never been a walk in the park for me be seated before this honourable committee. I was born and raised in a humble setting in Takawungu in Kilifi. My parents were poor and they struggled to provide for me and 27 siblings.” she narrated
After dropping out of school, Jumwa was married off becoming a mother at her teenage years.
“I got married off at a very young age and in that union I became a mother to my first born. These are among the practices that must curbed. It is very painful and harmful.” she sated
According Jumwa, the painful experience motivated her decision to join active politics in bid to make transformation through policy making.
The CS nominee said she has a keen interest in matters that affect youth, women and persons living with disabilities especially from the coastal region.
However, Jumwa would overcome the hurdles to attain a degree in Leadership and Governance from the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology(JKUAT).
The former legislator is currently taking a Laws Degree from the Africa Nazarene University.
