All 34 residents of the collapsed building in Nairobi’s Mountain View Ward, Uthiru area, have been located and are safe, according to the Nairobi County government.
Nairobi Disaster Management Chief Officer Bramwel Simiyu confirmed that no casualties have been reported from the incident.
Addressing concerns about four missing residents, including a 10-year-old girl, Simiyu assured that the concerns have been resolved.
“The building was sinking slowly, and all the residents were able to evacuate safely,” said Simiyu.
However, he mentioned that the county government emergency team will continue to search the area while waiting for assistance from the Kenya Defence Forces based in Kahawa Barracks, who will deploy their sniffer dogs to check for anyone trapped in the debris.
Simiyu added that one house with a gas flame was allowed to burn out safely.
“The Nairobi City County Government is providing immediate humanitarian aid for the night and plans to provide further support and facilitate reintegration,” he stated.
The Kenya Red Cross has also confirmed that all tenants are accounted for, with only one female sustaining injuries.
“One female, who was rescued at the beginning of the incident, was taken to the hospital by well-wishers,” stated the KRC on Wednesday morning.
“Ten others received treatment at the scene by the Red Cross Action team. As of now, all tenants have been located.”
