President William Ruto has suggested that his political opponents, allegedly unhappy with his recent state visit to the United States in May, are financing protests against his policies and regime.
Speaking during a Sunday church service in Narok County, Ruto claimed that these unnamed individuals are trying to undermine his leadership by supporting demonstrations that cast his administration in a negative light.
Ruto pointed out that certain forces are opposing his strengthened relationship with Western countries, particularly after he was chosen for the visit, which was a significant event given that it was the first such visit in over a decade from a leader on the African continent. He indicated that this displeasure has prompted these opponents to retaliate by backing protests aimed at destabilizing his government.
Notably, during this particular church service, President Ruto was not accompanied by his usual political allies. Only Governor Patrick Ole Ntutu and his predecessor, Samuel Tunai, were present. This absence of his political supporters during the service adds to the current tension surrounding his leadership and the ongoing protests.
