The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has issued a warning to motorists, advising them not to use the Athi River-Machakos road service lane.
In a statement released on Friday, the Authority cautioned that a section of the embankment slopes has eroded due to heavy rains, posing a danger to motorists, especially near Green Park estate.
While the main carriage remains operational, KeNHA urged motorists to exercise caution when using it and to refrain from using the service lane until repairs are made.
“KeNHA advises motorists plying the Athi River – Machakos Road near Green Park estate to exercise caution. The embankment slopes have eroded, posing risks to the service road. The main carriageway remains open; however, due to the tenuous conditions, please refrain from using the service road. Motorists are advised to prioritize safety when using the main carriageway and to proceed with caution,” the Authority stated.
In addition, KeNHA issued a traffic advisory on Thursday for motorists traveling along Mombasa Road, particularly in the Konza area, where heavy traffic was reported. Motorists were urged to be patient as efforts were made to expedite construction along the route causing the traffic snarl.
“The Authority understands the inconvenience and assures you that efforts are being made to expedite the process,” KeNHA said, adding that motorists can expect smoother traffic flow by the weekend.
Furthermore, on Wednesday, KeNHA advised motorists to avoid attempting to cross the Athi River Bridge until water levels recede to safe levels.
