Betty Kyallo is the star of an all-new reality show helmed by Eugene Mbugua – the filmmaker behind other hit reality TV shows including Sol Family, which features Sauti Sol, and This is Love which stars music power couple Nameless and Wahu.
Betty, one of Kenya’s most influential personalities, is set to pull back the curtains on her life taking viewers behind-the-scenes, beyond the glitz and glamour. The show will also feature Betty’s sisters Mercy and Gloria Kyallo.
Her online vlog series Being Betty introduced in 2020, soon after she left her position as news anchor at K24, offered fans a glimpse of her day-to-day life, showing her rushing to meetings, running her businesses and hanging out with family. The new reality show is set to take it a notch higher, with unparalleled access and insight into Betty and what makes her tick.
The new production was confirmed by both Betty and Eugene Mbugua’s D&R TV – after a meeting on Thursday, July 15 in which they watched the show’s pilot (first episode).
Mbugua described the show as “one of the most exciting projects we have at D&R TV”.
“On to something massive! I love progress! New Contract coming right up!” Betty wrote after the meeting.
Mercy, on the other hand, couldn’t hide her excitement for the show – revealing that it would feature debriefs in which the stars of the show get to discuss their co-stars and events on the show.
“I’m excited, can you imagine we’re going to be doing debriefs like ‘Hi, I hate Betty’,” she joked.
News of the show also left fans of the presenter excited, with many sharing that they looked forward to watching it. Betty is one of Kenya’s most followed personalities online, with close to 3 million followers on Instagram alone.
The journalist has leveraged her star power to build an impressive brand and portfolio which includes beauty businesses Flair by Betty, AfterShave by Flair and BK Closet.
In an interview with Business Today, she highlighted challenges she had faced while growing the business, even as she disclosed major expansion plans.
Betty plans on taking her beauty brands beyond Nairobi and into East Africa, and is keen on expanding the venture to include express nail salons and a Kids-centric fashion brand known as Flair for Kids.
Notably, she made a return to TV in February, as host of The Big Quiz Show alongside Eric Omondi.
